Last week the government shifted up a gear to roll out the vaccination campaign. The population was given an overview of the route to the 'realm of freedom'. There is light at the end of the tunnel, although the road is still long and there are many hurdles to overcome. In this report, we discuss the conditions for a motivating vaccination campaign. We report the results of a large-scale vignette study (N = 15 719; 50% women; 40% French speakers), which aimed to investigate the optimal motivating conditions for vaccination readiness. In addition, the need for tailoring the conditions to the personal motivational profile of the participants, their age and gender, was investigated. The positive news is that the willingness to vaccinate has generally increased since mid-December. Both personal characteristics (i.e., motivation, age) and manipulated environmental characteristics predict vaccination readiness. The stimulating role of these environmental characteristics appears both for high and low motivated persons, although the effects are stronger for those who are already motivated today. We formulate concrete recommendations for organizing a motivating vaccination campaign.
