The infection figures have risen rapidly in recent weeks. There is a growing awareness among part of the population that action needs to be taken. At the same time, other citizens are questioning the need for this. Here and there, pockets of resistance are growing. The question is how we learn to live with the measures to control the risk of an escalating development. From CELEVAL a barometer, a color-coded system that shows the risk level of the epidemic, was proposed. This system, which was already launched at the end of May by the expert group "psychology & corona" as a motivational support framework, received the necessary support from the politicians but they felt it needed to be refined. But what does the population think of this colour-coded barometer? And what do people think of corona badges that citizens would pin to their sweaters or coats, reading, for example, "1.5m all day keeps the virus away!"? In this report we discuss the psychological benefits of these tools. In the latest UGent research on motivation in the population, in which 4877 people participated (average age 53.02 years, 62.8% women), participants gave their opinion on these corona badges and barometers. This yielded many interesting results that CELEVAL can put to use. That is why we also formulate a number of recommendations for the implementation of these tools.
