The second wave of infections takes its motivational toll. Corona fatigue is creeping in among many citizens. While we were yearning for an invigorating summer holiday, the virus was taking us at speed. The motivation of the population has been charted in the motivation barometer study since the beginning of the semi-lockdown in March. To date, 51,167 people took part in this study, 5,192 of whom have done so since the measures were recently tightened at the end of July. The results of this survey show that our motivation for following the measures is decreasing at a rapid pace. This is not only due to the long duration of the corona crisis so far, but also to insufficient scientifically based efforts on behavioral determinants to manage the crisis. Additional efforts are urgently needed. In this report, we give an overview of the most important results of the recent surveys, advocate an interdisciplinary approach, and offer a series of recommendations (do's and don'ts) for motivating communication and policy.
