In order to achieve great performances, top athletes need to train daily and take good care of themselves. Their motivation plays a key role in this. Without a large dose of healthy motivation they will not be able to keep up with their demanding training schedule. Even in these coronary times, people's motivation to stick to the prescribed measures is put to the test. A study that we set up at Ghent University shows that our sustainable motivation is generally fine today, although there are differences between people. This is good news because motivation is a good predictor of the extent to which we follow up on the measures and can therefore limit the spread of the virus. If the daily motivation measurement shows that our motivation is beginning to wane, then the government can make adjustments via targeted, motivating communication.
